Memories
The Scapolatiello is a hotel unlike any other. Its history, more than 150 years old, the importance of its guests, nobles, artists and politicians, render it unique. It was founded in the early 1800’s (1821) as a simple guesthouse where the pilgrims would stop on their way to the nearby Abbey or seeking the healthy and invigorating air of the mountains. It is the only hotel treasuring a guestbook as ancient as 1846.
Its pages are a real historical document and represent a chronicle of the hotel, its guests as well as the hospitality and professionalism of the owners, not to mention the delicious cuisine and fascinating sites nearby. Turning the worn and sometimes ripped pages, you will find signatures and notes of more or less famous characters of those times. Princes, Barons and other noblemen from all European countries, like Giustino Fortunato, Ambassador to Greece, Sofia and Elena Nanne of Asburgo, the poet Salvatore di Giacomo or the Count and Countess of Brunswick.
You will also find more recent entries, such as Vittorio de Sica, Eduardo de Filippo, Claudio Baglioni, Eros Ramazzotti, and Cossiga. The Hotel Scapolatiello has enriched the town of Cava de' Tirreni with its hospitality and the professionalism of four generations of men who have turned a simple guesthouse into a marvelous hotel.
